Intermittent software problems are particularly difficult to investigate because they may occur only under specific timing conditions, after extended operation or through complex interactions between multiple tasks and system resources.

Percepio Detect continuously monitors RTOS-based embedded software during testing and captures diagnostic information when relevant problems or warning conditions occur.

This allows development teams to investigate problems based on information captured when the event actually happened — reducing the need to reproduce difficult and sporadic issues in the development laboratory.

Detect can also monitor software timing and resource usage and identify stability risks such as timing anomalies, multithreading issues and other conditions that may indicate an emerging problem.

For fault conditions such as hard fault exceptions, Detect can also provide core dumps with call-stack information for subsequent investigation.

Performance metrics are monitored directly on the target and can trigger alerts when defined warning levels are exceeded. This allows testing to continue for hours, days or even weeks while Detect watches for stability risks and unusual runtime behavior.

Alerts can be stored on the device and retained across crashes and restarts, helping preserve valuable diagnostic information about intermittent problems.

Detect monitoring can also be incorporated into regular integration and continuous testing, allowing multithreading risks, timing anomalies and other stability issues to be identified earlier in the development process.
